Proton T1and T1 rhohave been studied in powders of (NH4)2MCl6where M4+=Pd4+, Pt4+, Te4+, Ru4+, Ti4+, Ir4+and Re4+from 40 to 300K. The activation energies Eafor NH4+motion are 0.61, 0.68 and 1.60 kcal mole-1respectively for the Pd, Pt and Te salts, and Eais a linear function of the lattice dimension for the cubic hexachlorides. (NH4)2TiCl6changes structure at about 244K and (NH4)2RuCl6is non-cubic. Approximate NH4+tunnel frequencies have been derived from the non-classical minima in T1and T1 rhoin good agreement with previous results for other ammonium salts.
