Key result
Higher SII linked to ~3% greater odds of asymptomatic organ damage in newly diagnosed hypertension.
Why the study?
Low-grade inflammation facilitates hypertensive organ damage, but the relationship between leukocyte and lipid-based inflammation indices and asymptomatic organ damage in treatment-naive and newly diagnosed hypertension patients required investigation.
Cross-Sectional (n=300)
No
Systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) are independent predictors of asymptomatic organ damage in newly diagnosed hypertension, with SII offering superior diagnostic performance.

Altıntaş et al. (2022) conducted a cross-sectional in Treatment-naive and newly diagnosed hypertension (n=300). Systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) vs. Lower SII levels was evaluated on Asymptomatic organ damage (AOD) (OR 1.03, 95% CI 1.01-1.05, p=<0.001). Higher systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) levels independently predicted asymptomatic organ damage in newly diagnosed hypertension patients (OR 1.03), demonstrating superior diagnostic discrimination (AUC 0.872).
