Policy analysis reveals how Sino-Russian strategic alignment narrows India's diplomatic and defence autonomy, highlighting the need for deeper European partnerships and defence indigenisation.
This article examines how the consolidation of the Russia-China strategic relationship under the Putin-Xi axis affects European security and India's strategic autonomy. It argues that Russia's growing economic, financial and defence-industrial dependence on China is narrowing India's strategic space by weakening the independence of a major partner on which New Delhi has historically relied for defence supplies, energy and diplomatic flexibility. The article further examines European strategic realignment and the implications for India's multi-alignment strategy, concluding with policy recommendations centred on defence indigenisation, deeper European partnerships and calibrated engagement with Russia.
