This small volume, first published in 1920, needs no introduction to most students of medicine since it is used widely in this country as an elementary textbook in embryology. In this edition many of the illustrations have been enlarged and labeled in larger type, while the section on gastrulation has been rewritten. In revising the text, however, the author has not lost sight of his original objective, a simply presented story of the early development of the chick.
