The experimental parameters of steady-state creep, i.e. the strain rate sensitivities and apparent activation energies, are defined with respect to the applied, internal, and effective stress. The basic relations between these six parameters are derived without any additional assumptions on the mechanical equation of state. The relations between these parameters and the experimental parameters of transient creep introduced recently by Ahlquist et al. are discussed for a special form of the equation of state.
