The optical constants of degenerate CdO films were measured at about 10 K in the spectral range around the LO lattice frequency (5 to 24 μm). Besides the free carrier absorption and a tail of the lattice absorption an additional absorption is found above the LO frequency which can be explained by the theory of free polarons. At higher frequencies it is superimposed by further absorption processes with noticeable structure which are unexplained until now.
