Ghosting resulting from adsorption phenomena or surface reactions is an important source of error in quantitative determination of C2–C5 acids in gas liquid chromatography (GLC). The influence of several experimental variables on ghosting has been tested in a factorially designed experiment. Ghosting has been found to be dependent on column packing, acid nature, injector type, nature of the ghost eluter and injection sequence.
