Recently developed soluble systems for the study of SV40 DNA replication in vitro (Su and DePamphilis 1976; Edenberg et al. 1976, 1977) may contribute to an understanding of mammalian replication factors. The replication of SV40 DNA depends on cellular replication enzymes in addition to the product of one viral gene that is required for the initiation of replication (Tegtmeyer 1972; Chou et al. 1974).
