The kinetics of oxidation of benzyl alcohol by chromic acid is studied in homogeneous and extractive conditions. Reaction rates are found to be of the same magnitude when the reaction are localized in aqueous phase or in the organic phase in the presence of a phase‐transfer reagent, although the reactivity seems to be much higher in organic phase. The mechanism and the effect of the reaction conditions on the rate of the reaction are discussed.
