The rate constants for the reactions of O++ ions with several molecules and atoms have been measured. For reaction with N2 the rate constant was found to be (1.6±0.6) × 10−9 cm³ s−1, which agrees very well with an earlier laboratory study but which is considerably larger than the upper limit deduced from satellite observations.
