Some interesting changes of stream gradient have taken place in Cherry Creek in Denver, Colorado, as a result of structures built for its control. In straightening the stream, its course was shortened and narrowed and the banks were paved, thus increasing the velocity. Consequent scouring has degraded the slope, thereby tending to undermine structures and to produce other phenomena which are described.
