A time dependent model that couples the growth of the particles in a cloud with the electrical development is used to explain the phenomenon of the rain gush. It is demonstrated that electrical forces in the cloud decrease the fall velocities of the hydrometeors to a point at which particle interactions are inhibited and precipitation is suppressed. If a lightning stroke occurs at that point, a rain gush results.
