Measurement of gastric emptying of a radiolabelled solid food is described. A procedure enabling the assessment of background radiation, and connected with it corrections of the parameters characterizing gastric emptying curves are discussed in detail. Considering background radiation, 99mTc-DTPA and 99mTc-HSAM are shown to be equivalent as solid meal markers in the studies of gastric emptying. Correction for background can be neglected, has the background/total count ratio been sufficiently reduced.
