A dynamical description is necessary for the characterization of the high-temperature atomic disorder at premelting surfaces. We propose a two-dimensional periodic adiabatic potential model and solve the two-variable Fokker-Planck equation in an external field, both at short and long time scales. This approach accounts for the essential features of the dynamics of the Pb(110) premelting surface.
