A new expansion of the angular dependence of the intermolecular potential between linear molecules is proposed. Long-range forces are calculated by using the 9-j symbols, and in particular, each electrostatic interaction between multipole moments corresponds to one term of our expansion. Angular integrals of this expansion with wavefunctions are also given as these may be applied to molecular-beam scattering or to the infrared absorption spectra of dimers.
