Certain lines of investigation on the physiology of the hypophysis indicate that a better knowledge of the nerve supply to this important organ is urgent. Most of our information on this subject has naturally been gleaned from work done on the common laboratory mammals. Due to species differences there is danger in generalizing too freely from observations made on a particular animal. Hence data obtained directly from man is of special importance in human physiology and clinical medicine.
