The power monitor described has been designed to measure the radiated power from continuous wave lasers operating in the visible and near infra-red bands. It is absolutely calibrated and relies on the flow of heat through a standard thermal impedance establishing a temperature gradient which is measured. The device can be designed for any power level in excess of 10 mw and its response time, 0-90%, is approximately 1 minute.
