A very simple optical device is proposed, which enables the velocity in a convective fluid, and the map of the temperature isogradients to be simultaneously measured. The simultaneity of these two measurements is an important step in the understanding of unsteady phenomena. This fact is illustrated by the study of the time oscillatory behaviour of the motion observed in a fluid confined in a small box, and submitted to the Rayleigh-Bénard instability.
