It had a bactericidal spectrum roughly comparable to that of penicillin,2and was well tolerated by laboratory animals3, 4when applied locally or injected systemically. In 1947, Meleney and Johnson2reported the first 100 cases of surgical infections treated locally with bacitracin, with results at least comparable to those obtainable with penicillin. Since then the local use of bacitracin has been successful in the treatment of infections of the skin5and eye, and bacitracin has...Bibliography1.
