Two field-trial were conducted to study the suitability of domestic raw sewage and grass-legume mixtures as an alternative to topsoil. In the sewage application of study, 9 tree species were grown with application of raw sewage. After 3 years, survival rate was found to be very good for Acacia, Me Ha and Eucalyptus. The application of sewage improved organic carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous and cation exchange capacity. In upper 0-20 cm surface, heavy metals concentration increased. Accumulation on plants were also studied. In the second experiment, legume ( Stylosanlhtis humilis) and grass ( Pennisetum pediceilatum) in the ratio of 2:1 were sown of virgin spoil dump. Improvement of soil fraction, organic carbon, mineralisable nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium were observed. This experiment showed that in tropical climate nitrogen accumulation rate was higher than temperate climate.
