Reaction of (η5-C5Me5)TaMe4 with kinetically stable silanetriol leads to the formation of the tantalum siloxane cage complex which can be thought of as molecular model for a tantalum organometallic compound supported on a silica surface. The mechanism of formation via dehydroxylation reactions on metal centers and silanol condensation is discussed.
