Cyclisation is known to compete with intermolecular crosslinking of polymer chains, particularly in solution. This paper attempts to show the dependence of these competing reactions on perturbations caused by polymer‐solvent interactions. The Segment Density Model (S.D.M.) is discussed; this is based on the spatial distribution of segment densities. The effects of approximations in the S.D.M. are assessed by comparing the results with those obtained from the probabilities of meeting of specified pairs of segments (Conformational Model, C.M.).
