Tignor, G. H., and W. H. Price, (The Johns Hopkins Univ. School of Hygiene and Public Health, Baltimore, Md. 21205). Antibody responses in spider monkeys following single and double infections with group B arboviruses. Amer J Epidem94: 386–396, 1971.—Spider monkeys (Ateles geoffroyi) were infected sequentially with group B arboviruses and the antibody responses after the first and second infection were determined by hemagglutination-inhibition (HI) and neutralization tests. After primary infection, homotypic, mixed homotypic, or heterotypic HI antibody responses developed. After secondary infection, all monkeys responded heterotypically by the HI test. Irrespective of the HI response, monkeys developed homotypic neutralizing antibody both after first and second infections. In the rare instances where a heterotypic neutralization response was noted, it was to only one heterologous virus, except in the case of West Nile infection. The HI test was most useful to determine group B-reactive antibody. The neutralization test was often specific even after secondary infection.
