The coating of calcium carbonate on gypsum particle surfaces was examined by electron microprobe technique. The gypsum‐carbonate interaction was studied in two systems: (i) gypsum‐sodium carbonate and (ii) gypsum‐calcareous soil. In both systems, the calcium carbonate was precipitated on the gypsum particle surfaces, forming a coating layer.
