The purpose of this paper was to evaluate the validity and reliability of Interpol's murder data. Reviews of survey studies in different nations suggested that Interpol's murder data were valid because most unreported crimes were minor; rates of unreported crime were similar in developing and developed countries; methodological and definitional variations could be considered random measurement errors. The LISREL model assessing reliability estimates found that Interpol data were reliable and stable measures across nations and time.
