Properly choosing the size of the substituent on the aluminum and phosphorus building units results in a hexameric aluminophosphonate ([MeAlO3PtBu]6) from the reaction of alkylaluminum compounds with phosphonic acids. The central Al6O18P6 core (see picture on the right) has the form of a cylindrical drum which resembles the double-six-ring building units in zeolites.
