The Flow Properties of Clay Paste From Red, Black and Alluvial Soils Containing Different Clay Minerals at Small Shearing Stresses Have Been Studied, Using a Brookfield Synchrolectric Viscometer (Type Rvt). The Bingham Yield Stress Obtained by Extrapolation of the Hysteresis Curve of Clay Water System When Plotted Against Per Cent Moisture Content in the Soil Gives an Inflexion at Specific Moisture Content, Corresponding to Liquid Limit of the Soil. The Results Obtained by This Method Are Comparable Within One Per Cent of Those Obtained by the Cup Method. The Bingham Yield Stress at Liquid Limit Has Also Been Calculated and Found to Be in Conformity With the Reported Values. The Low Range of Rate of Shear (Rpm) of the Viscometer Restricts the Determination of Flow Properties at Thick Plastic Consistencies of the Clay Paste. /Author/
