Increased cardiac leaks in dogs extend pore-leak models; hypothesis-generating and leaves open human relevance.
This preclinical study demonstrates that normal dog heart capillaries have an increased number of large pores ('leaks') compared to capillaries in the leg and cervical regions.
Areskog et al. (1964) studied Normal heart capillary permeability (n=10). Dextran (test substance) vs. Leg and cervical region capillaries was evaluated on Capillary permeability (ratio of dextran concentration in lymph and plasma). Heart capillaries demonstrated a similar permeability pattern to leg and cervical regions (pore radii 40-60 Å and leaks 120-300 Å), but with an increased number of leaks.
