Recent Advances in Dermatopharmacologyconsists of 21 state-of-the-art chapters of diverse content. Many of the papers deal with agents widely used in the practice of dermatology: ultramicrosized griseofulvin, clotrimazole, miconazol, sulfadiazine silver, tar in a gel base, salicylic acid in a gel base, insect repellents, and several aspects of topical corticosteroids, specifically evaluation of potency, influence of vehicle, and adrenal suppression. Three papers deal with an area of controversy, the use of topical antibiotics and corticosteroids in combination. Three papers deal with therapeutic modalities that are evolving, specifically oral psoralens in combination with ultraviolet light (UV-A) in the treatment of psoriasis, gold in the treatment of pemphigus vulgaris, and α-hydroxy acids in the treatment of ichtheotic states.
