Successful homotransplantation of thyroid tissue has been achieved in dogs for periods extending up to 10 months. The amount of thyroid tissue decreases and fibroplasia increases as a function of time. The biologic principle underlying the survival of homografts in this system warrants further study, but it does not appear that clinical application of this laboratory model is feasible at present.
