Dated historic structures provide a chronological framework for the evaluation of coastal greenschist weathering over periods of up to 450 years. A weathering rate of 0.6 mm a -1 , derived by direct methods over a short period, is shown to be valid over a span of centuries. Local variations in aspect, elevation and exposure of the structures influence weathering processes and rates. This paper is a summary of work published in full elsewhere.
