English summary Demand for dental services and expenditures for dental treatment in the Norwegian adult population 212–6. The purpose of the study was to describe Norwegian adults’ demand for dental services and expenditures for dental treatment and analyse the importance of income on demand and expenditures. The data were collected in the spring of 2004 by means of questionnaires. The participation rate was 70 % (n=2471). The results were described in subgroups of relevant background variables. Logistic regression was applied for analysis of income on demand for services, and multiple regression analysis was applied to study the effect of income on expenditures for dental treatment. The results showed that 78 % and 87 % had visited the dentist during last year and during the two last years, respectively. Twenty-three percent visited a dental hygienist. There was a significant effect of income on demand for dental services last year. The effect, however, was equivalent to a probability of 0.79 for a visit given an income of NOK 200 000. With an income of NOK 800 000 the probability increased to 0.83. There was no association between income and expenditures for dental treatment. The results are in line with our previous results. The implications of the findings for increasing the role of insurance were discussed.
