Familial dystrophia myotonica linked to ECG abnormalities and focal myocarditis in 3 patients.
Case Report (n=3)
Focal myocarditis may be a manifestation of cardiac involvement in dystrophia myotonica, suggesting metabolic or degenerative myocardial processes.
Cardiac involvement may warrant evaluation in dystrophia myotonica; this case report leaves open its prevalence and management implications.
A mother and her two sons with dystrophia myotonica are reported. All three patients had electrocardiographic abnormalities. The mother and one of the sons died.Necropsy revealedfocal myocarditis. It is suggested that myocarditis is a manifestation of the natural history of 'dystro- phia myotonica cordis', and that focal myocarditis generally may be a sign of metabolic or degenerative processes in the myocardium.

Three patients with familial dystrophia myotonica exhibited electrocardiographic abnormalities, and necropsy in two revealed focal myocarditis.
