A digital-computer program developed to simulate the roller-drafting of staple fibres is reported. Having been established for the simple case of perfect drafting, the simulation is used to analyse the sliver-elasticity theory of drafting. It is suggested that sliver elasticity is responsible for only a small degree of drafting irregularity in modern spinning systems. This novel method could be used to study other theories of drafting behaviour.
