Abrasive-waterjets are being used in many composite trimming applications. The macro morphology and geometrical features, such as kerf taper or waviness, of cuts produced in composites are not different than those observed in other materials. However, depending on the composite structure, micro effects may be significantly different. This paper presents new data and observations on linear cutting, turning, drilling, and milling of composites. In general, the abrasive-waterjet is shown to allow accurate control of the machining process; machining accuracies of 0·025 mm have been demonstrated.
