Although rare, if left untreated these disorders are associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. Since the 1950s, immunosuppressive therapy has been the mainstay of treatment of active AAV (2). Data from a meta-analysis of 10 studies done between 1980 and 2005 suggest that trends in AAV-related mortality may have improved over time. Despite this, long-term outcomes continue to lag behind mortality rates of the general population (3). Furthermore, although population ...References1.
