A methodological approach is presented for investigating the psychosocial perception of nursing home living by the residents themselves and by nursing home staff. A modified version of the Community Oriented Programs Environment Scale was administered to 20 younger nongeriatric residents, 20 geriatric residents, and 20 nursing home staff. Results are discussed in terms of the possible differential effects of institutionalization and age-wise comparative staff-resident differences in nursing home perception.
