Aortic root cine-angiography successfully maps human aortic annulus movement throughout the complete cardiac cycle.
This study describes the physiological movement of the human aortic annulus during the cardiac cycle using cine-angiography.
Offers initial mechanistic insight into annular dynamics; leaves open validation with modern imaging before clinical application.
Movement of the human aortic annulus is recorded and described in ten aortic root cine-angiograms in the lateral or left anterior oblique projections. Diametrically opposed points at valve cusp attachments were plotted through a complete cardiac cycle. The mechanism of annular movement is discussed.

J. L. Mercer (1969) studied this question. Aortic root cine-angiography enabled the recording and plotting of human aortic annulus movement through a complete cardiac cycle in ten cases to describe its mechanism.
