Optimal simultaneous placement of distributed generators and synchronous condensers (DGs-SCs) is determined using ant-lion optimization-based multi-objective Optimization (MOO) algorithm, considering active and reactive power loss and voltage stability as objectives. The MOO formulation is converted to a single objective from the weighted sum of the individual objectives. SC are considered due to its ability to absorb or produce reactive power. A capacitor bank does not have this ability. The performance of simultaneous placement of: PVDGs with SCs, Wind-based DGs with SCs, and micro gas turbine DGs (μTDGs) with SCs are tested on IEEE 118-bus large-scale radial distribution system (RDS). Also, the performance of simultaneous placement of the various renewable DGs: PV, Wind based, μT, with SCs are tested on the same RDS. A marginal annual investment cost per unit energy loss reduction of optimally allocated various DG and SC is proposed.
