Covalent Bonding of Phosphonates of Fullerene and Ru Complexes to γ-Zirconium Phosphate as a Template for Building Chemical Devices in the Solid State

Phosphonates of RuII(bpy)3 complexes and C60 were covalently grafted within the layers of γ-zirconium phosphate. The synthesis of some phosponate derivatives of C60 is thus described. Confined electron transfer was effected as demonstrated by Ru luminescence-quenching experiments. The solid composite materials were characterized by solid-state NMR, powder x-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry, elemental analysis and ICP-MS.
