Mössbauer effect studies are made on nickel cadmium ferrites. Mössbauer spectra of 57Fe are presented as functions of concentration x and temperature. Previous Mossbauer effect studies of the NixCd1−x,Fe2O4, series have shown contradictory results of the concentration dependence of quadrupole splitting (QS) and the temperature dependence of QS in CdFe2O4. It is shown here that the QS decreases from CdFe2O4, to NiFe2O4 as the nickel concentration is increased. In the case of the end member, CdFe2O4, the QS really decreases with the increase in temperature. The motional averaging model is used to explain the decrease of the QS with temperature in CdFe2O4. Further, the zinc substituted nickel ferrite shows certain interesting properties with regards to its spin arrangement and ferromagnetic relaxation. It is also the aim of the present work to examine whether the cadmium substituted nickel ferrite also exhibits such behaviour. A preliminary report of the present work has been published elsewhere [1].
