Assessment of leaf damage caused by northern leaf blight in maize

A disease severity key using leaf area diagrams illustrating different proportions of affected tissue has been prepared. The key allows the percentage of leaf area affected on individual plants to be assessed. Its method of use is outlined and the relationship between % leaf area affected on individual plants and the classes of a general disease rating system used widely in the past has been examined.
