The hybrid superconducting magnet system used to obtain a magnetic field of 19.3 T at a temperature of 1.8 K without any quenching is described. The magnetic system consists of a NbTi outer magnet for generating the 11 T background field and several Nb/sub 3/Sn insert magnets which use multifilamentary Nb/sub 3/Sn conductors formed by react-and-wind and wind-and-react techniques. The magnet arrangement consists of the HOMER test facility and the Nb/sub 3/Sn high-field insert coils. The magnet is transparent for liquid He and operates in a cryogenically stable condition due to the high cooling power of the pressurized He II bath. It is noted that 19.3 T is not the upper field of the magnet system since the innermost 19.3 T coil was not optimized.>
