In 1900, Leube observed a patient with findings suggestive of both conditions, to which he gave the name "leukanämie." Since then a number of such cases have been reported, chiefly in the German literature. Sinek and Kohn1in 1930 reviewed the reported cases and came to the conclusion that most of them were either a true leukemia with a macrocytic type of anemia, or pernicious anemia with a leukemoid (myeloid) white cell picture.
