Young children with meningomyelocele and hydrocephalus frequently have a serious problem with decubitus ulcers. A new operation is described, whereby a neurovascular sensory island flap of abdominal skin, based on one of the lower intracostal neurovascular bundles, is passed subcutaneously to the insensitive area of the decubitus ulcer. This brings sensation and new blood supply to the decubitus area, plus a skin patch.
