Protamine zinc insulin overcomes this difficulty. Its absorption from the site of injection is slow; its therapeutic action is prolonged. But precisely because of its retarded action, short periods of post-prandial hyperglycemia and glycosuria are common with its use. If separate additional injections of standard insulin are given for the purpose of eliminating this objectionable feature, then one of the major advantages of protamine zinc insulin, a reduction in the number of injections, is partly or wholly lost.Mixtures of the two forms of insulin in the same syringe...Bibliography1.
