Volume-rendered 3D imaging provides comprehensive visualization of the living pericardial space in cardiac tamponade.
Why the study?
Precise appreciation of living pericardial space anatomy is important for procedural success and safety during epicardial approaches, but 3-dimensional visualization has been extremely difficult and limited to dissection images or illustrations.

Volume-rendered 3D imaging from a case of cardiac tamponade provides a comprehensible visualization of the living anatomy of the pericardial space, which may aid in epicardial procedures.
Precise appreciation of the living anatomy of the pericardial space is important to ensure procedural success without compromising safety during the epicardial approach. However, comprehensive 3-dimensional appreciation of the pericardial anatomy is extremely difficult. Thus far, learning sources of 3-dimensional pericardial anatomy have been limited to the dissection images and/or illustrations.1-6 Visualization of the entire picture of the pericardial space has been challenging. We herein presented comprehensible volume-rendered images of the pericardial space, reconstructed from the case of cardiac tamponade.

Mori et al. (2020) conducted a case report in Cardiac tamponade (n=1). Volume-rendered 3-dimensional imaging was evaluated on Visualization of the pericardial space. Volume-rendered three-dimensional images reconstructed from a case of cardiac tamponade provided a comprehensive visualization of the living anatomy of the pericardial space.
