Molecular ion absorption due to NH 4+ was observed in fluoride glass infrared fibers. The absorption has a double peak at 2.96 and 3.04 μm, and vibrational assignments were made by analogy with other host materials. The position of these peaks could influence the minimum‐loss wavelength.
