Excess entropies and volumes of mixing for liquid alloys

The excess entropies of mixing of liquid alloys can be semi-quantitatively explained largely in terms of the excess volumes on the assumption that a hard-sphere model is appropriate and that the total hard-sphere volume is conserved on alloying. Improved results are obtainable if a slight net increase in hard-sphere volume is permitted.
