A novel spiral channel polymerase chain reaction (PCR) microchip was developed by using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and glass. Finite element analysis was used to simulate the temperature and hydrokinetic characteristics of this PCR chip. Investigation of the spiral channel arrangement indicates that this layout can improve the productivity and efficiency effectively. An amplification of a 450 bp segment of Escherichia coli HB101 was successfully performed, which verified the ability of the microchip.
